It was someone's genius to ask her to use the scarf as a very strong props. The addition of the cross necklace really gives some controversy to the picture. Most people will conclude that she looks like a Muslim, but the addition of the cross contradicts.
Vert interesting image - it is amazing how the scarf and cross contradict each other as you mentioned - but the mystery and seduction is still there..! Great photography.
